하지만, 이 영화는 살인사건을 중심으로 전개되는 미스터리 영화는 전혀 아닙니다. 살인사건이 있기는 하지만 누구라도 누가 범인인지 알 수 있을 뿐더러 살인이란 단지 이야기 전개 과정에 나오는 하나의 에피소드일 뿐입니다.
뮤지컬 영화 라라랜드가 파스텔 톤 색감으로 만들어진 영화라고 하면, 이 영화는 유성 물감을 덧칠한 핑크색, 보라색이 있습니다. 호텔 지배인 '구스타브'가 살아가던 환상(illusion) 속 현실을 영화로 만들어 냈습니다. 영화 줄거리와 내용 전개는 약간 병맛이 있습니다. 하지만, 영화를 보고 있으면 어느 사이에 다음 장면이 궁금해지며, 화려한 영상에 넋을 잃게 됩니다.
