우리나라 크리스마스에 틀어주는 영화가 바로 '나 홀로 집에(Home Alone)'가 있다면, 미국에서는 바로 이 영화를 크리스마스에 틀어 준다고 합니다.( 디트로이트 근처에 살았던 미국인 젊은 영어 강사가 한 말입니다.)
이 영화를 보고 있자면, 차라리 나 홀로 집에 가 100배 보기 편한 영화입니다. 이 영화는 순도 100% 착한 사람들이 나와서 착한 일을 하고 그 가상함을 하늘에서 듣고, 지상으로 직접 천사를 내려 보내 어려움을 해결해 준다는 고전적인 스토리를 가지고 있습니다.
하지만, 이 영화가 제작된 때는 무려 1946년 입니다. 한국전쟁이 일어나기 전 입니다. 아마, 우리나라에는 TV 조차 없지 않았을까 합니다. 이런 시대에 칼라로 제작된 영화입니다. 이 영화를 보게 되면 마치 우리 70년대 만담을 다시 보는 듯한 손. 발이 오그라드는 장면들이 나옵니다. 권선징악의 스토리를 가지고 있기는 하지만, 그냥 단순한 스토리는 아닙니다. 그래도 한번 정도는 재미있게 볼 수 있는 내용입니다. 오글거리는 장면 제거하고, 리마스터 된다면 스토리 자체는 꽤 참신한 편입니다.
미국에서 크리스마스에 방영하는 이야기라면 봐두면, 미국 사람들과 공감대를 만들 수 있는 소재로도 사용될 수 있습니다.
