1. 처음 2번은 영어 문장만 보여줍니다.
- 영어 문장만 듣고, 어떤 내용인지 생각하는 훈련을 합니다.
2. 교육부에서 지정한 중. 고등학생용 이상 영단어에는 개별 단어 뜻을 보여줍니다.

There once was a boy named Jack. He lived with his mother in a very small house.
옛날 한때 잭이라는 소년이 있었습니다. 그는 어머니와 아주 작은 집에서 살았습니다.
They were very poor but they had a little vegetable garden in their backyard and a cow.
그들은 매우 가난했지만 뒷마당에 작은 채소밭과 소를 가지고 있었습니다.
They named their cow Gentle. Nothing grew, was growing in garden because it had been a very cold winter.
그들은 소의 이름을 젠틀이라고 지었습니다. 매우 추운 겨울이기에 밭에는 아무것도 자라지 않았습니다.
They had no fruits or even vegetables growing in their garden.
그들에게는 밭에서 자라는 과일이나 야채도 없었습니다.
Jack's mother told him to go sell Gentle because they could not feed their cow anymore.
어머니는 잭에게 더 이상 소를 먹일 수 없으니 젠틀을 팔러 가자고 말했습니다.
On the way to the market with Gentle, Jack saw an old man standing by the road.
젠틀과 함께 시장으로 가는 길에 잭은 길가에 서 있는 노인을 보았습니다.
The old man asked Jack, “Where are you going with that cow?”
노인은 잭에게 "저 소를 데리고 어디 가니?"라고 물었습니다.
Jack replied, “I am going to sell my cow because we cannot feed it anymore. My mother and I need the money.”
잭은 "우리는 더 이상 소를 먹일 수 없기 때문에 나는 우리 소를 팔 것입니다. 어머니와 저는 돈이 필요해요."
“I will buy your cow with my magic beans. With these beans, you and your mother will not have to worry about food or money again,” said the old man.
"내 마법의 콩으로 그 소를 사겠다. 이 콩이면 너와 어머니는 다시는 음식이나 돈에 대해 걱정하지 않아도 될 것이다."라고 노인이 말했습니다.
Jack wanted to make his mother happy. He did not want her to worry about food or money.
잭은 그의 어머니를 행복하게 해주고 싶었습니다. 그는 어머니가 음식이나 돈에 대해 걱정하는 것을 원하지 않았습니다.
He agreed to trade his cow for the magic beans. Then, the old man said, “with these beans you will find a treasure that I once had.”
그는 소를 마법의 콩과 바꾸기로 동의했습니다. 그러자 노인은 이렇게 말했습니다. "이 콩으로 내가 예전에 가지고 있던 보물을 찾을 수 있을 것이야."
“The big giant stole my treasure. If you find it, it's all yours.”

Jack was very happy. He ran all the way home to tell his mother the good news.
잭은 매우 행복했습니다. 그는 어머니에게 기쁜 소식을 전하기 위해 집까지 뛰어갔습니다.
When she heard that Jack had traded their cow for the beans, she got angry.
어머니는 잭이 그들의 소를 콩과 맞바꾸었다는 말을 듣고 화가 났습니다.
Her face got red, and she yelled at Jack, “Go straight to bed! We have no food for dinner.”
어머니의 얼굴이 빨개지며, 어머니는 잭에게 소리쳤습니다. "침대로 가라. 지금! 저녁 음식은 없어."
She took the beans from Jack and threw them out the window. When Jack woke up the next day, he was hungry.

He noticed that it was dark inside his home. There was something blocking the sunlight from his window.

He walked outside his house and into the garden. There was a giant beanstalk in the middle of his garden.
그는 집 밖을 걸어 밭으로 들어갔습니다. 밭 한가운데에 거대한 콩나무가 있었습니다.
He looked up to see how high the beanstalk was. He could not see the end. The beanstalk reached the sky.
그는 콩나무가 얼마나 높은지 보려고 고개를 들었습니다. 끝을 볼 수 없었습니다. 콩나무가 하늘에 닿았습니다.
Jack wanted to see what was on the other side of the beanstalk, so he decided to climb to the very top.
잭은 콩나무 저편에 어떤 것이 있는지 보고 싶어서, 맨 꼭대기로 올라가기로 결심했습니다.
As he was climbing, he said to himself, “I hope the old man was right about the treasure.”
콩나무를 오르고 있으면서, 그는 "노인이 말한 보물이 사실이라면 좋겠다"라고 혼잣말을 했습니다.
“If he lied I will be very mad at him.” He climbed and climbed, and soon he touched the clouds in the sky.
"만약 노인이 거짓말을 했다면 나는 그 사람을 미워할 거야." 그는 오르고 또 올라서, 이윽고 하늘 속 구름에 손을 댔습니다..
When he reached the top, he got off the beanstalk. He started to walk and soon he saw a big house.

Jack was hungry and thirsty from climbing up the beanstalk. He knocked on the door and a servant opened it.
잭은 콩나무를 올라왔기에 배가 고프고 목이 말랐습니다. 그가 문을 두드리자 하인이 문을 열었습니다.
“May I come in and rest? I am very tired,” said Jack. “I would love to help you, but I cannot.”
"들어가서 좀 쉬어도 될까요? 저는 매우 피곤합니다."라고 잭이 말했습니다. "나도 당신을 돕고 싶지만 그럴 수 없어요."
“My master is a giant. If I let you inside his home, he will eat you. He likes to eat little children.”
"우리 주인은 거인이습니다. 내가 집에 들여보면, 거인은 당신을 잡아먹을 것입니다. 거인은 어린아이들을 잡아먹는 것을 좋아합니다."
Jack was scared of the giant. He did not want to be eaten. All of a sudden, he heard a loud voice.
잭은 거인이 무서웠습니다. 그는 먹이가 되고 싶지 않았습니다. 그런데 갑자기, 큰 소리가 들려왔습니다.
“Where is my dinner? I am very hungry. Bring me my dinner now!”“Dinner is coming, sir.” replied the servant.
"내 저녁 식사가 어디 있어? 너무 배고파. 지금 당장 줘!" “저녁 식사입니다. 주인님.”라고 하인이 대답했습니다.
She took Jack by the hand and hid him inside the food cabinet.
하인은 잭을 손으로 낚아채서 음식 캐비닛 안으로 잭을 숨겼습니다.
“Stay in here and do not come out until I tell you to. Go to the back and hide,” she said.
"여기에 계세요. 제가 말할 때까지 밖으로 나오지 마세요. 들어가 숨어요."라고 하인은 말했습니다.
The giant came down the stairs and said, “I smell the blood of a man! There is a man inside my house.”
거인은 계단에서 내려와서 다음처럼 말했습니다. "사람 냄새가 나는걸! 내 집 안에 사람이 있어."
The servant said, “Sir, you are wrong, there is no man inside your house. It is the smell of meat that I cooked for you.”
하인은 말했습니다. "주인님, 아니에요, 이 집에는 사람은 없어요. 그 냄새는 제가 준비한 고기 음식에서 나는 것입니다."
“You are lying. I do not believe you!” said the giant. He began to look around the room. He pulled out all the drawers and cupboards.
"거짓말이야. 난 널 믿지 않아!" 거인이 말했습니다. 그는 방을 둘러보기 시작했습니다. 그는 서랍과 찬장을 모두 꺼냈습니다.
Jack was very afraid that the giant might find him and eat him. All of a sudden, Jack heard, “Your food is getting cold, Sir.” said the servant.
잭은 거인이 자기를 찾아 잡아먹을까 몹시 무서웠습니다. 그런데 갑자기 "주인님, 음식이 식어요."라고 하인이 하는 말이 잭에게 들렸습니다.
“You are right, my food is getting cold. Hurry up and bring my food to me, I am very hungry!” yelled the giant.
"네 말이 맞아, 내 음식이 식어 가고 있어. 빨리 내 음식을 가져와라, 아주 배가 고파!" 거인이 소리쳤습니다.
The servant served the giant three roasted pigs, two racks of lamb, four turkeys, three pieces of chicken, and ten slices of ham.
하인은 거인에게 구운 돼지 3마리, 양고기 2마리, 칠면조 4마리, 닭고기 3조각, 햄 10조각을 가져다주었습니다.
The giant ate all of his meal. He asked the servant to bring him his gold coins.
거인은 음식을 모두 먹었습니다. 그는 하인에게 금화를 가져오라고 했습니다.
She did as he asked. She put the gold coins on the table and the giant started to count his coins.
하녀는 그가 시킨 대로 했습니다. 하녀는 금화를 탁자 위에 놓자, 거인은 동전을 세기 시작했습니다.
After a while, the giant got tired and he fell asleep. Jack came out of the cabinet.
잠시 후 거인은 지쳐서 잠이 들었습니다. 잭은 캐비닛에서 나왔습니다.
He remembered the old man's story about the treasure. He walked to the table where the gold coins were.
잭은 보물에 대한 노인의 이야기를 기억해냈습니다. 그는 금화가 있는 테이블로 걸어갔습니다.
He quietly put all of the gold coins inside his bag. When he was done, he tiptoed out of the room.
그는 조용히 가방 안에 금화를 모두 넣었습니다. 일이 끝나자 그는 발끝으로 살짝 방을 나갔습니다.
He did not want to wake the giant. Jack closed the door on his way out of the giant's house.
그는 거인을 깨우고 싶지 않았습니다. 잭이 거인의 집에서 나오면서 문을 닫았습니다.
His bag of coins hit the door with a loud bang. At that moment, the giant woke up and found that his gold coins were gone.
동전이 든 가방이 요란한 쾅 소리와 함께 문에 부딪쳤습니다. 그 순간 거인은 깨어났고 금화가 없어진 것을 알았습니다.
He got very angry. Jack started to run towards the beanstalk.
그는 매우 화가 났습니다. 잭은 콩나무를 향해 뛰기 시작했습니다.
He knew that he had to run fast because the giant would catch up to him. He was very scared.
거인이 자기를 따라잡을 것이기 때문에 빨리 달려야 한다는 것을 잭은 알고 있었습니다. 너무 무서웠습니다.
He did not want the giant to catch him. The giant ran after Jack. All of a sudden he tripped and fell down.
잭은 거인에게 잡히고 싶지 않았습니다. 거인은 잭을 뒤쫓았습니다. 갑자기 그는 발을 헛디뎌 넘어졌습니다.
Jack got to the beanstalk first before the giant did. He jumped onto the beanstalk and started to slide down.
잭은 거인이 오기 전에 먼저 콩나무에 도착했습니다. 그는 콩나무에 뛰어올라 미끄러져 내려가기 시작했습니다.
He used the beanstalk like a pole and went down very fast. The giant saw the beanstalk and jumped on it as well.
그는 콩나무를 장대처럼 사용해 아주 빨리 내려갔습니다. 거인도 콩나무를 보고 그 위에도 뛰어올랐습니다.
He was too big and heavy for the beanstalk to hold him. The beanstalk started to bend.
그는 덩치가 너무 크고 무거워서 콩나무가 견딜 수 없었습니다. 콩나무가 휘기 시작했습니다.
It bent all the way down towards the sea, and it broke off at the stem. The giant went into the water and never came back out.
콩나무는 바다 쪽으로 쭉 굽어지다가 줄기가 끊어졌습니다. 거인은 물속으로 빠져 다시는 나올 수 없습니다.
That was the end of the giant. Jack got home safely with the gold coins in his bag.
그것이 거인의 마지막이었습니다. 잭은 가방에 금화를 넣고서 무사히 집에 도착했습니다.
His mother was worried about him because when she woke up he was gone.
그의 어머니가 깨어났을 때 잭이 없어졌기 때문에 걱정했습니다.
He took out the gold coins from his bag and showed his mother. His mother was very happy.
그는 가방에서 금화를 꺼내 어머니에게 보여 주었습니다. 그의 어머니는 매우 행복했습니다.
She gave him a big hug. From that day on, Jack and his mother did not have to worry about food or money ever again.
어머니는 그를 힘껏 껴안았습니다. 그날부터 잭과 어머니는 다시는 음식이나 돈에 대해 걱정하지 않아도 되었습니다.
They could buy anything they wanted with the gold coins.
그들은 금화로 원하는 것은 무엇이든지 살 수 있었습니다.
