드라마 영화 속에 항상 나오는 독특한 캐릭터가 있습니다. 항상 주인공이 하려는 일을 못마땅해하면서 방해하는 인물입니다. 드라마 진행을 엄청 더디게 만들어 줍니다. 바로 '베터 콜 사울'에서 그 역할을 하고 있는 사람은 바로 사울의 친형입니다. 사울의 친형은 원래 유명한 파트너 변호사이었으나, 전자파 알레르기가 심하게 있습니다. 그래서, 전자파를 발생하는 모든 장치(핸드폰, 시계, 냉장고, 전자레인지, TV 수신기 등)를 사용하지 못합니다. 이런 설정으로 친형 일상을 보여주는 에피소드 넘버 5입니다.
그래서 이번 에피소드는 전반적으로 재미없습니다. 하지만, 이번 에피에서 '사울'이 드디어 자신만의 정체성, 변호사로의 정체성을 찾기 시작합니다. 노인을 상대로 하는 전문 변호사로 변신하기 시작합니다. 우리나라도 마찬가지지만 미국에서도 노인을 상대로 한 사기가 꽤 있는 모양입니다. 그래서 사울은 노인들 편에 서서 정의로운 변호사가 되기로 하고 자신만의 특기를 발휘해서 변호사 영업을 시작합니다. 이런 장면을 보고 있으면 미국 변호사는 우리나라로 보면 일종의 영업사원인 정도입니다. 변호사 자격증 가지고 있는 자체로만은 먹고 살수 없는 경쟁 상태로 보입니다.
3. 영화에서 배울만한 영어 어휘
스크립트 3번 probable cause는 법률용어이지만 일상용어로 사용될 수 있을 정도로 쉬운 단어 조합입니다.
6번 OSHA는 Occupational Safety and Health Administration 직업 안전 위생 관리국의 약자입니다.
7번 tooth and nail은 이미 한번 나왔던 어휘입니다.
positive reinforcement,pacific rim, hash out 과 같은 조합된 단어의 사용법에 유의해서 듣고 익혀 놓아야 합니다.
